One of the most frequently asked questions is: How long does it take to learn Spanish? Can I learn Spanish in 3 months?

The answer depends on several factors – the number of hours you spend learning the language; if you have daily contact with the language; if you learn Spanish in Spain or in your home country, etc.

As a Spanish language school with decades of teaching experience, we can answer that questions based on our knowledge of how far a student can expect to progress in 3 months.

It is possible to learn Spanish in 3 months, but it is true that to fully master the language to a native level, you will need more time. An intensive Spanish course covering all levels (from A1 to C2) consists of 62 weeks (about 15 months in total). This does not mean that you need to reach level C2 (improvement) – level B2 or C1 is enough to work and live in Spain.

Learning Spanish in 3 months in an intensive course, in our case, a course of 20 lessons a week (4 lessons a day of 45 minutes), a student can start a Spanish course for beginners, from scratch, and get to the beginning of level B1 (intermediate).

What can I expect to learn in 3 months?

In 3 months, the students can surprisingly go from not speaking at all, to having conversations with the team entirely in Spanish.

In this time, they complete the contents of A2 and complete 2 weeks of level B1. These are the levels of Spanish and the number of weeks you need to take an intensive course 20:

GOALS ACHEVIED A2 LEVEL OF SPANISH:

With level A2 (elementary) these objectives are achieved in the language:

  • Interaction in brief social relationships
  • Describing personal experiences
  • Describing present and past in a simple way
  • Understanding and writing texts referring to your personal and professional life
  • The acquisition of vocabulary related to social relationships, personal experiences, leisure and free time, historical stages, etc.

GOALS ACHEVIED B1 LEVEL (week 1 and 2):

In the first two weeks of B1 (intermediate) an introduction is made to the ‘subjunctive’ mood that is used, for example, in phrases to express wishes like these:

“Quiero que él venga a mi casa”
“Espero que pases un buen fin de semana”

This means that in 3 months learning Spanish you will be able to talk about your routines, your daily life, your past experiences, and an introduction to the ‘subjunctive’ as well as acquiring a lot of vocabulary.

Having the right mindset

Learning Spanish is a challenge that must be faced with an open and strong mind. This is important because you are going to spend a lot of time and effort studying!

Learning any language requires a lot of discipline and commitment. You will make mistakes, it can be difficult at first to memorise new words and pronounce them correctly, but do not give up when difficulties arise!

Keep practicing Spanish every day: speaking, reading, writing, and listening to Spanish. Add new phrases and words every day to your notebook, and above all, keep a positive attitude. If you can do this you will master Spanish.

If you are willing, you will improve these skills through practice and repetition.
