How Many Different Races Do You Play? - Total War: Warhammer (2024)

I have played almost every faction at least once. I think Bretonnia are the only faction i haven't played. But some factions i do play a lot more.

GS, DE, Skaven, VC i prefer. I generally dont play order races very much at all

I play every races, except the ones that I find to be not fleshed out enough yet like the Ogres and Bretonnia.

There are of course races/lords that I tend to like more than others.

I do have a bias againt Nurgle though... I find them disgusting.

Right now I am not playing BM and WoC / DoC due to their incomplete rosters.

Bretonnia is one of my favourite btw. Good knights against all the evil of the world. Classic.

Ogres not because I will only buy them once they removed Greasus wheelchair.

Kislev not because I dislike New-Kislev design / lore changes.

So it is never because of gameplay reasons.

For me it's the opposite, I avoid races/factions close to exclusively for gameplay reasons. I don't like elves, but I play their campaigns for the different experience. I like Tzeentch but I avoid the Changeling because his campaign is awful.

I play LM, Empire, Ogres, Cathay, Tzeentch and Dwarfs A LOT.

I don't play Nurgle or Skaven AT ALL.

The rest range in the middle.

Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle, Slaanesh mainly. But I also play Vampire Counts, Vampire Coast, Tomb Kings.

All of them... but for the moment it's only to expand my mod to all the races.

So I play a race to test the mod, and then move to another race.

I dont buy stuff i dont intent to play

Do not play VCounts, because I am not interested without DLC. VCoast, because they are not interesting. Lizardmen because they are outdated and never found them good to begin with. I would say I play every race apart from these, with favourites Dark Elves, Khorne, Norsca, WoC and Nurgle most of the time. I played so much defensive campaigns in Warhammer 2, I got really bored of the mundane and wanted to do different stuff, so playing mainly offensive races.

Although, I still enjoy playing Elspeth and role playing as a defensive bastion against Chaos. Currently, I play with MCT support giving Chaos and Greenskins absurd amounts of gold and upkeep reductions and just doing hold outs and dealing with constant pressure, have lots of difficulty regaining lost Empire ground because there is armies everywhere and I have a ET invasion mod installed, so Archaon has a bazillion stacks around all of IE because he confed all WoC factions and vassalised Norsca, so has absurd income going through the roof to spend. There is just something very appealing in being outnumbered 3 to 1 and then having shooters that evaporate anything they fire at, but also have melee units that can kill what are objectively the best warriors in the universe ^^ I think Empire campaigns will never get old.

Think I've played every faction at least once. Some I've enjoyed more than others (I find High Elves boring).

However, some factions I've not managed to get past a few turns due to them being bad:

Daniel (campaign mechanics)

Ostankya (start pos)

Changeling (worst campaign in TW history)

Skrag (campaign mechanics)

Greasus (wheelchair and campaign mechanics)

Aranessa (the whole undead thing)

Valkia, Azazel, Sigvald (no alternative mono starts)

A bit of almost everything, but some factions much more than others. Still haven't touched Greenskins or VCoast, not out of distaste but just because I haven't gotten around to them.

The only faction I'd say I outright dislike is Kislev - for purely mechanical reasons (I don't find them fun to play as or against in battle, so I can't bring myself to repeat early Kislev-campaign Kislev-on-Kislev violence; it's just the least fun match-up I can imagine). But I played a decent amount of it pre-IE, and a little post-IE.

My mains (just as they were in tabletop) are Lizardmen and Dwarves. I just find I enjoy my campaigns with them more so I tend to play them more often.

But apart from that I play all the races and factions because it helps keep the game fresh, I think I've at least tried about 75% of the LLs at this point.

I accomplished every one in VH difficulty.

Some old guys from here, Mr. Captain Rex (Old ArneSo I think) for example, suggest to try everything. So, according to them, once I forced myself to try one of my most hated races, The Empire, TBS Karl Franz. I just started the campaign and I swear I couldn't even force myself to hit the first end turn, just exit immediately!

This is something in my blood maybe! But I hate playing with order races (The Empire, Dwarfs, Kislev, Cathay) plus Elves!My favorites are then Skaven, Monogods, WoC, Greenskins, and Beastmen.I'm still waiting for the update for VCounts, VCoast, Norsca, and Tomb Kings for playing them, and absolutely waiting for Nagash!I also love the Chaos Dwarf roster but I can't/don't want to tolerate their multi-resource campaign management, so unfortunately neglect them as well.
