Neither Gates nor Musk: the ‘Oracle of Omaha’ is the only one who is ‘making a killing’ on Trump’s tariffs by doing the opposite of everyone else (2025)

Warren Buffett, known as the Oracle of Omaha, is one of the 10 richest men in the world. At 94 years old, the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway is considered one of the best investors in history and probably the best of our time. With the collapse of the stock markets caused by Trump’s tariff policy, he has proved it again: he has been quietly selling stakes in large companies for months to raise liquidity and buy US Treasury bills.

With the stealth sale he has made over the last few months of part of his stakes in Apple, in Bank of America, and in other large companies that have plummeted on the stock market in recent days, he has accumulated 334 billion dollars. Analysts across the board have been stunned by his foresight, doing the opposite of everyone else. Investors had been highly optimistic about the business revival policy and tax cuts that Trump had promised, but it seems that Buffett was the only one who realized the true storm that was coming.

Buffett banks big thanks to Trump turmoil

Buffett is one of the few who has been enriched by Trump’s tariff policy. His net worth has increased since January by $11.5 billion and he has moved from seventh to fourth on the list of the world’s richest people. He is the only one who has not lost wealth from the top 20 billionaires at the end of 2024.

The funny thing is that this potentate lives simply and in a 5-bedroom house he bought for $31,500 in 1958 and is now valued at $1.2 million. Despite being a powerful Apple investor, he did not own an iPhone until 2020, eats breakfast every day at McDonalds, never makes ostentatious expenditures and has donated most of his personal fortune to charitable causes: “If you are part of the luckiest 1% of humanity, you owe it to the world to think of the other 99%”.

Buffett is studied across the business world and his philosophy is not only applicable to commerce. You only have to read some of his most famous quotes to understand that, beyond his exceptional talent, he applies the same common sense that leads to success in any family economy: “Rule number one is not to lose money. Rule number two is not to forget rule number 1″, “whether it’s socks or stocks, I like to buy quality products when they are discounted”, “it takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it”, “never invest in a business you don’t understand”, “the most important thing if you’re in a hole is to stop digging”....
