Nutella Fudge

Do you love the delicate hazelnut flavor of Nutella chocolate spread? Me too! That's why I just had to make this easy, microwave, 2-ingredient Nutella Fudge to share with you.

For the few of you out there who have never tried it, Nutella is a creamy blend of hazelnuts, sugar, and cocoa powder and it is traditionally spread on toast in the morning for breakfast. It was created in Italy during a time of war when cocoa powder was scarce as a way of making something with a rich chocolate flavor without using a lot of cocoa.

They perfected Nutella over the years and it has become a staple on the breakfast table all over Europe and beyond, but Nutella is not just for breakfast. It can be used to make cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and more. I've even used Nutella to make Poop Emoji Popsicles (don't let the name scare you, they are so yummy and cute) and Nutella Fudge Witch Hats, and of course this Nutella Fudge.

Ingredients

milk chocolate - Milk chocolate contains cocoa butter and dried milk. Its mild flavor will allow the Nutella to really shine through.

Nutella - Creamy chocolate hazelnut spread.

To make this fudge you simply melt milk chocolate and blend Nutella into it. You pour it into a pan chill it for a while and then cut it into squares. Seriously that's all it takes!

What kind of chocolate should I use?

  • I chose to use milk chocolate for this easy fudge recipe to allow the flavor of the Nutella to stand out. Milk chocolate has a more delicate flavor than dark chocolate so the hazelnut flavor in the Nutella will not be masked.
  • It's also softer than semi-sweet chocolate which will allow the fudge to be soft and creamy.
  • You can use pure milk chocolate bars, blocks, callets, or chips.
    • My absolute favorite milk chocolate is Peter's Ultra but it's primarily sold to candy makers. Thankfully you can find 10-pound blocks of it on amazon. If you plan to make lots of easy fudge to give as gifts this Christmas or holiday season I'd definitely recommend getting yourself a block of this incredibly creamy milk chocolate. It's seriously amazing!
      • Just a note that whenever you use a bar or block of chocolate to make fudge, be sure to finely chop the chocolate before melting. Smaller pieces will melt more quickly and evenly.
    • I also really likeCallebaut Milk Chocolate but it also is sold in 10-pound bars.
    • At the grocery store, I usually grab bags of Ghirardelli or Kroger brand milk chocolate chips and Trader Joe's has a really nice 1-pound milk chocolate bar that I really like.
    • There are lots of other brands of milk chocolate. The important thing is that you use a chocolate that you like eating straight from the package.

Can I use Light Cocoa Candy Melts?

  • Yes, if you have them on hand but I wouldn't suggest buying them specifically to make this recipe.
  • I love using White Candy Melts (or Peter's White Ice Caps) to make easy vanilla fudge, cookies and cream fudge, and even Caramel Fudge, but I prefer to use pure milk chocolate for this recipe as it has a nicer flavor than the light cocoa candy melts.
  • You can see how I did use Black Candy Melts to make my Nutella Fudge Witch Hats. Black Candy Melts actually taste like white candy melts and they did make a really nice fudge.

Can I use dark chocolate?

  • Yes, but you will need to change the quantities used in the Milk Chocolate Nutella fudge recipe (below).
    • If you choose to use dark chocolate to make this easy Nutella Fudge you will need to increase the amount of Nutella in the recipe by an additional ⅓ cup.
    • Why? Because milk chocolate is softer than dark chocolate and the Dark Chocolate Nutella Fudge would be too firm without the addition of more of the creamy chocolate spread.

Does this make creamy fudge?

  • Yes, however, this easy fudge recipe will feel much more firm than a chocolate fudge made using sweetened condensed milk.
  • Even though this fudge feels firm, when you take a bite it will melt in your mouth.
  • It's best to cut this fudge into small pieces so people can just pop the fudge squares in their mouths and enjoy the sensation of the melting chocolate.
  • If you want this fudge to be a bit softer, then add an additional 2-3 tablespoons of Nutella.

Microwave method:

Step 1 - Melt the chocolate in the microwave.

  1. Pour the milk chocolate chips or finely chopped milk chocolate bar into a microwave-safe mixing bowl.
  2. Heat on high power for 1 minute then remove and stir.
  3. Heat for 30 seconds on high power then let the bowl sit in the microwave for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Remove and stir, pressing down on any remaining chunks of chocolate until everything is melted.
  5. Only if needed, return the bowl to the microwave and heat for 10-second increments, stirring after each, until all the chocolate is melted.
    • You don't want to overheat the chocolate as it can burn. If you do burn your chocolate, you must through the entire batch away, as the flavor will be ruined.

Step 2 - Stir in the Nutella and spread into the pan.

  1. Stir the Nutella into the melted milk chocolate then pour into a pan that has been lined with either non-stick tin foil or parchment paper.
  2. Cover the fudge and let it sit at room temperature for 3-4 hours until firm.
    1. To speed up this process you can refrigerate the fudge for about an hour. Just be sure to remove the fudge once it firms up otherwise it may get too hard. Let it thaw at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before cutting.
  3. Remove the fudge from the pan, peel off the tin foil or parchment paper then cut it into at least 36 squares.

Stovetop method:

Step 1 - Melt the chocolate using a double boiler.

  • Create a double boiler by filling a saucepan with 1 inch of water.
  • Set that pan on the stove and turn the burner on low.
  • Set another bowl or pan into the saucepan so that the bowl fits snugly around the top edge of the pan but the bottom does not touch the water.
  • Pour the milk chocolate into the bowl.
  • Allow the chocolate to melt slowly, stirring it often.
  • Remove the bowl from the heat and dry the bottom of the wet pan (steam will have formed on the underside of the bowl and you don't want any droplets of water to get into your chocolate).

Step 2 - Mix with the Nutella and pour into the pan.

  • Stir the Nutella into the milk chocolate until well blended.
  • Pour into a prepared pan and repeat the process listed above.

2 ingredients!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow!!!!!!! I was really skeptical about this fudge recipe, but it tastes amazing and set up perfectly. It does melt in your fingers if you hold onto it too long, but that wasn't a problem for my family. I cut the pieces really small and they just popped them in their mouth. YUM!!!!!!!!!!! Did I say, "YUM"? I mean, "YUM"!!!!!!!!!!

I still can't believe this fudge is made using just Nutella and chocolate. It is so darn good!!! Now I know what I'll be making for my family for the holidays. I'm going to buy those giant jars of Nutella from Sam's to make lots of batches of this fudge. I am excited.

Can’t wait to make this! Would I be able to add peanut butter?

    • Beth

If you add peanut butter, just swap it out for some of the Nutella so the recipe uses the same total quantity of creamy nut spread (Nutella+Peanut Butter). Enjoy!

Great recipe. I usually make this for birthday gifts and people have absolutely raved about it. I tend to make a half batch though since I only make it for one person at a time, but it still works well for those small gifts.
