Amigo/amiga is a platonic friend, novio/novia is romantic. Some places clarify fiancé/fiancée with prometido/prometida but novio/novia is sufficient because context would indicate marriage is imminent

'Amigo' and 'amiga' mean friend. If you are talking about your boyfriend or girlfriend then you use novio/novia respectively.
